Who we are

With locations in Landstuhl & Ramstein, Sweeney Irish Dance is one of the oldest Irish dance schools in Germany. Founded over 30 years ago by Mary Sweeney, the school started with just a handful of students in an Irish pub in Munich and has grown to become one of Europe's most active and successful Irish dance schools. Our students compete and perform internationally, and we prepare them for exams and professional careers in dance. Many of our alumni have gone on to perform on stages worldwide.

MEET MISS MARY

Mary Sweeney’s passion for Irish dance began at the young age of four at the Farrelly School in Co. Meath, Ireland. Under the guidance of Mollie Farrelly SDCRG, Mary competed in prestigious events such as the Leinsters, All Irelands, and Worlds. She was also a key member of the Senior Ladies Ceili team, contributing to their World Championship titles in the late 1980s.

In 1992, after moving to Munich, Germany, Mary established her dance school in 1993, becoming one of the pioneers of Irish dance education in mainland Europe. Her dedication led to her achieving both her TCRG and ADCRG qualifications as well as becoming a Grade Examiner. Mary also co-founded the Mainland European Teachers Association (RCCEA) in 2003 and has held various leadership roles within the organization, including Vice Chair of CLRG (An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha).

Mary’s expertise as an ADCRG has made her a respected adjudicator worldwide, judging at events such as the North American Nationals, All Scotlands, and Australian Championships. She has also played a pivotal role in promoting Irish dance globally, including the introduction of the Aisling Award at the World Championships. Over the past 24 years, Mary has inspired countless dancers in the Landstuhl area, many of whom have achieved significant success and gone on to professional careers in dance.
